Part 1 - Rita - This part introduces her and her forebears. It begins with genealogies going back to pre-Revolution days, for both the Prince and the Parrish lines, and then tells about Ritas grandparents E.H. Prince and Mama Prince, her parents Bo and Honey, and then about Rita herself. Her biography covers her early life, her year in Japan with her sister Kay, and then at Univ. of Michigan, where we met and fell in love. It ends with our marriage and honeymoon.Much of this part was written by Rita herself.Part 2 - Our Life Together, or From Academia into the Foreign Service - covers the period that begins with our marriage and ends after we are in the Foreign Service and getting ready to fly to Bangkok for our first assignment. It covers our time in Madison while I was studying for my MA in Scandinavian Area studies at the University of Wisconsin, our year in Norway on a Fulbright grant at the University of Oslo, and two years as a graduate assistant in the doctoral program at Cornell University.Much of Part 2 was excerpted from the many linimitable letters that Rita wrote to her parents.
